After the Second World War engineer Matti Piippo began to implement his throughly elaborated idea of processing carboard into various products. As an engineer, he designed and manufactured the machines and equipment himself and started the production of paper twine. As the production increased and the range of products became wider, the location of the factory in the environment of Tampere had to be changed several times.
When the polyolefins were introduced into industrial use, Piippo Ltd. began its product development which was aimed at using polyolefins in the production of twines and ropes. In consequence, the factory became too small and part of the production was transferred to Outokumpu, where Piippo Oy is situated today.
Due to strong development of both the products and the markets, the capacity of Piippo Oy became insufficent at the end on 1980s. Therefore the company purchased the oldest rope factory in Finland, Oy Manilla Ab, which had been founded in 1928 and was situated in Rymättylä. The purchase increased the capasity and know-how of Piippo Oy considerably. Today Piippo Oy is the leading rope and twine producer in Nordic Countries. The main segment are agri, commercial products and industry.
